Con History: From Costume Masquerade to Fursuit Parade

85 years ago at Chicon, the 2nd Worldcon in 1940, costume maker Morojo opened up her hotel room, 689 in the Hotel Chicagoan, as a changing room for the first Costume Masquerade. Morojo’s room would be considered the first Con Suite and Cosplay Lounge. 50 years later these elements would evolve into the Headless Lounge and Fursuit Parade at the first furry cons. Join us for a 85 year long journey from the first fan conventions to the modern cons to today, and show how we are all part of one larger fandom family, looking at the history of convention costuming, cosplay, and of course the history of fursuits and fursuiting.
